METROPOLITAN ERVIN SZABO LIBRARY, Hungary

STIFT ADMONT LIBRARY, Austria
Stift Admont is the oldest monastery in central Austria, and is the home of the largest monastic library in the world. The library hall, which was built in 1776, is covered in gold details and pastel ceiling frescoes, making it feel like something you'd see in a classic Disney movie. In other words, if you're only visiting one more library in your life, make it this one.

SAINTE-GENEVIEVE LIBRARY, France
This public Parisian library contains about 2 million documents and we'd have no problem sitting in here reading every single one of them. The building was finished in the 1850's and even though the facade is stunning, it doesn't come close to the grandeur of the interior.

HOTEL DE VILLE LIBRARY, France
Now, we don't want to get your hopes up, so we'll start by saying that there's a very slim chance that you'll ever be able to visit this library. Why is that? Well, fist off, no tourists are allowed. In fact, a French public library card won't even get you access. To visit this library you need to apply for a card proving you're a resident AND that you need access to the specialized libraries of Paris. Although we're fairly certain we'll never gain access, there's no harm in dreaming about it... right?

RHODE ISLAND STATE LIBRARY, the U.S.
Now, this place might not have the same mythical ambience as the secret libraries of Paris. However, it is located in a gorgeous Neoclassical building AND it's a lot more accessible. It's open to the public Monday through Friday and is well worth a visit if you're in the area.

STARFIELD LIBRARY, South Korea
This ultra modern library has quickly become a top tourist attraction in Seoul. It opened in 2017 and is located in COEX Mall, the largest underground shopping center in Asia. The library is open daily to the public, and in addition to "old-fashioned" paper books, they also offer iPad e-books for their visitors.

CARTURESTI CARUSEL, Romania
The last library on the list is actually not a library at all - it's a book store. But as it is located in a magnificent 19th century building in the heart of Bucharest, we figured it was grand enough to still make the list. The store features a bistro, a contemporary art gallery and over 10,000 book titles. If you happen to find yourself in Bucharest, make sure to pay this breathtaking place a visit.
