There's something magical about a cold-weather winter getaway. Bundling up in warm clothes, strolling the streets of a new city and taking in the twinkling lights while sipping on a hot drink. Although summertime is great for traveling, we'd never pass up a great winter getaway (and some of our fondest travel memories are actually in the dreariest months)! Below we've listed seven destinations that are perfect for a cold weather vacation, so take a look and get inspired for your upcoming travels!
Amsterdam has a lot to offer - including some marvelous cold weather activities. Although it doesn’t happen every year, during colder winters Amsterdam’s iconic canals will freeze over, creating beautiful ice rinks winding through the city. In addition many of the buildings are decorated with lights, and there’s plenty of gluhwijn to be had in the local bars.
With its annual Christmas market, packed with traditional crafts and holiday treats, Moscow really is a prime destination during winter time. Make sure to bring a warm coat and gloves, because it will most definitely get cold!
Other than world-class skiing, Verbier in winter time has a lot more to offer! Hip hotels and cozy cheese fondue restaurants to name a few. There are plenty of spas, museums and sports facilities as well if you’re not into skiing!
This town offers incredible Rocky Mountain views, glacier-fed lakes, and real small town charm. The snowy peaks of Banff National Park makes a perfect backdrop for plenty of activities, including skating, horse drawn sleigh rides, snowshoeing and skiing. The perfect place for a winter vacation!
Even though we’ve already listed one Swiss mountain town on this list, we just couldn’t leave out this place. The twinkling lights of the town Adelboden, nestled in the Swiss alps and surrounded by snow covered peaks looks like something you’d see in a Christmas movie - and makes a perfect winter-time getaway.
Prague, Czech Republic
Prague is a wonderful city to enjoy amazing culture, food and scenery - and it gets even prettier covered in snow. Walk down the alleyways, grab a bite to eat and watch the snow fall outside, or why not stay warm while enjoying a world-class performance in the Prague State Opera House.
It’s hard to picture a more perfect place for holiday shopping and strolling along snow-covered streets than New York City. We recommend grabbing a hot chocolate and walk down Fifth Ave to see the most amazing window displays, or go ice skating in Central Park.
